The Day Before – the open-world survival MMO currently sitting atop Steam’s Most Popular Games Chart – is moving to Unreal Engine 5, but will be delayed to March 1, 2023 as a result.

Revealed exclusively with IGN, developer Fntastic has released a statement explaining that the game will be moving to the new advanced engine, but is also set to be delayed from its originally scheduled June 21 release.

The statement reads: “Millions of people have added The Day Before to their wishlist, making The Day Before one of the most anticipated games in the world.

“Feeling and understanding the great responsibility we face, with enormous gratitude in our hearts, we were pleased to announce that The Day Before is moving to the new Unreal Engine 5 technology! The transition to a more open worlds engine advanced and adapted, will make The Day Before gameplay even more fantastic.

“In this regard, we inform you that the new release date of the game will be March 1, 2023.”

The Day Before is a gritty open-world MMO, aiming to mix survival gameplay with deep combat, vehicle gameplay, and even Animal Crossing-inspired social elements. Even before its move to Unreal 5, the game was aiming for high-end visuals, having shown off a 4K ray-tracing trailer.
