As a free platform for everyone, Wikipedia functions as a source of information on virtually everything. The pages within the pages reflect the immense accumulation of knowledge that humans have acquired over the past century.

Wikipedia is driven by its contributors and regulators. Anyone can edit a Wikipedia page and edit the information (which of course is checked and deleted if it is misleading). It’s easily one of the world’s largest online communities for storing and distributing information.


The most read Wikipedia pages of each year reflect this year’s trends. For example, this has been an important year for SpaceX and Tesla’s Elon Musk, Netflix’s hit Squid Game series, and many other trends – all of which were mentioned in Wikipedia’s top 10 most visited pages. No Covid-19 related article has reached the top 25 – signaling a shift to ‘normal’. Here are the top 10 most viewed pages on Wikipedia:

Wikipedia’s most visited page is titled “Deaths in 2021” and has been viewed 42,748,490 times this year. The page lists notable deaths that occurred in 2021 by name, age, country of citizenship and more. 2021 has seen many deaths – from Prince Philip of England to Hollywood actress Jessica Walter to television veteran Larry King.

2. Elizabeth II

With 25,290,406 pageviews in 2021, the Queen of the UK and Commonwealth was the second most read article on Wikipedia. Elizabeth II is the oldest and longest-reigning British monarch and also the longest-serving female head of state in history.

3. Elon Musk

SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk have made headlines almost every week in 2021 – whether it’s with its controversial Twitter stances, its acceptance of cryptocurrencies rallying the mood of the market. Elon Musk was everywhere, from SpaceX’s accomplishments and Tesla’s cars to his split from Grimes, Musk was the third most-read article on Wikipedia – with 24,101,538 views.

Netflix’s game Squid rose to fame just two months ago thanks to Korea’s dystopian belly. The record breaking series at the time became Netflix’s biggest series to date. It follows the adventures of participants in a real game where one wrong move means death.

The Squid Game page has been viewed 21,887,095 times on Wikipedia.

Famous footballer Cristiano Ronaldo took fifth place in terms of pageviews on Wikipedia with 18,771,854 views on the free encyclopedia. In 2016 and 2017, Ronaldo was ranked highest paid athlete in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the first footballer and third athlete to earn $ 1 billion in his career.

6. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Prince Philip of the United Kingdom died on April 9, 2021. The former husband of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip was married to the British monarch from February 6, 1952 until his death. Just two months before his 100th birthday, Prince Philip has passed away.

Former American president and businessman, Donald Trump was at the head of American governance from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021. After suffering an electoral defeat, he was replaced by Joe Biden in 2021. Known for his approach outspoken, Trump is the darling of the American right.

Donald Trump’s Wikipedia page was viewed 16,366,771 times in 2021.
