Ranni the Witch is one of the many NPCs you will encounter who have a side quest to complete in Elden Ring. For this part of our Elden Ring guide, you’ll find details on where to find this NPC, how to start its questline, and the results of your choices.

Where to find Ranni the Witch

To talk to Ranni, you’ll need to complete Caria Manor in northern Liurnia. This will unlock the Three Sisters sub-region, where Ranni’s Rise is located. Ranni’s Rise is to the west of this area.

On Ranni’s Rise

When you reach Ranni’s Rise, head to the top to start your conversation with Ranni. She will task you with finding the lost treasure of Nokron. This will involve various NPCs and a link to other questlines, including:

After exhausting the conversation with Ranni, she will ask you to speak to three people in her service: Blaidd, Iji, and Seluvis. To talk to them, simply go back down Ranni’s Rise and you’ll meet all three of them along the way.

Once you talk to each of them, Blaidd will tell you that you can see him next in the Siofra River, and Seluvis’s Rise will be unlocked, allowing you to start the Seluvis questline.

Head to the Siofra River and find Blaidd just past the Hallowhorn grounds in the Siofra River. Exhaust the dialogue options with him and he’ll tell you that he thinks Seluvis knows more about accessing the Nokron than he’s letting on. Return to Seluvis’s Rise (and if you haven’t already talked to him, talking to him now will start the Seluvis questline.

Seluvis will tell you that Sellen may have information and will give you Seluvis Overview to take to Sellen and find out more. Sellen will tell you that Starscourge Radahn is the key to unlocking Nokron, but since he holds the stars, you’ll need to defeat him to access it.

If you’re looking for the festival mentioned by Alexander the Iron Fist in his questline, talking to Seluvis is the only way to trigger it. Once you learn this information about Radahn, you can return to Blaidd. He says he’ll meet you at Redmane Castle to fight alongside you against Radahn, so that’s where you should head next.

Red Mane Castle

You can teleport inside Castle Redmane from the Greatbridge Impassable Grace Site, which makes reaching Blaidd much faster. You also won’t have to worry about facing so many enemies as you would have already visited Redmane Castle. Triggering the festival appears to cause almost all enemies in Redmane Castle to disappear, including the mini-boss.

Fight the star plague Radahn

When you reach the courtyard, you will see many NPCs gathered together, including Blaidd and Alexander the Iron Fist. Head up the stairs and there’s an announcer you can talk to and kick off the festival. He will ask you if you are ready and tell you the story of Radahn. The doors to enter the Radahn boss battle will not open unless you talk to him.

Go through the doors at the top of the stairs, take the one directly behind the chair, then go right to take an elevator to a teleporter that will take you to the boss fight with Radahn. Here you will be able to summon a number of NPCs to help you in the fight against him.

After defeating Starscourge Radahn

When you’ve beaten Radahn, talk to Blaidd. He will tell you that you should meet “where the shooting star bit the earth”.

Defeating Radahn not only advances Ranni the Witch’s questline, but also:

Blaidd is hard to find at this point, but if you pass Folorn Hound Evergaol, you’ll hear a familiar howl. When you approach the Evergaol, you will have to choose to speak. Blaidd will tell you that Iji trapped Blaidd in the Evergaol, and you’ll be given the option to open it or not.

If you open it Blaidd will be released and you will be free to talk to him. He tells you that he will be on his way to Ranni to check that she is safe. If you go to Ranni’s Rise, there will be no sign of Blaidd.

Nokron, eternal city

You will now have access to Nokron, which you can enter through a crater south of the Mistwood Ruins. You will see a floating rock formation in the center.

Drop down the ledges heading for the door on the left. Keep following this path and you will reach Nokron, the eternal city with roofs that you will have to cross.

Carefully cross the rooftops in a generally northeast direction, until you reach a ledge on the left side that you can cross. Enter through the open window to the northwest here. Head northeast from here, dropping down to the ledge below. Continue in this direction to find a Site of Grace.

Head northeast from here and take the stairs down to the right. Follow the path from here and you will soon reach a veiled door. Come in and there will be a Mimic Teardrop it’s up to you to fight.

Once you beat the tear mimicry, the path to the northeast will open up and a site of grace will appear. Run along the bridge and take a left, when the bridge slopes down. Keep hugging this path to the left, then take the first opening to find another Grace site.

From there, jump onto the rooftops to the southwest. Then jump to the small ledge below, to the southwest. Go around the corner, northwest, and follow it until you can jump to the right where the corpse is hanging off the edge of the ledge.

Move forward and jump across the circular roof and drop down to where the two black spots are. When you jump, these turn into two Silver Tear enemies. After defeating them, take the path to the left and drop down from the gap on the ledge. Go forward and then drop onto the bridge that leads to two open windows.

Drop down and head to the lowest level of this area, with the giant stone ball in the middle.

Take the door and turn right. There will be another grace site here on the left for you to use. Now take the path all the way north and into the building. There is a chest here that has the Fingerslayer Blade that Ranni is looking for.

Back to Ranni’s Rise

Return to Ranni’s Rise and let him know you have the Fingerslayer Blade. Talk to him and be sure to exhaust his dialogue options to receive the Carian Inverted Statue.

Renna’s Rise will now be unlocked. You can find it northeast of Ranni’s Rise.

Inside Renni’s Rise

Climb the ladder and open the chest to the southeast to receive:

  • snow witch hat
  • Snow Witch Dress
  • Snow Witch Skirt

Climb the tower and you will find a teleporter. This will take you to Ansel River Main.

Approach the open stone blocks and you can pick up a Miniature Ranni doll. Head to Grace’s site, then rest on it. This will give you the option to talk to Miniature Ranni doll.

Be sure to try talking to him multiple times to unlock the dialogue. She will then ask you to eliminate the Baleful Shadows that roam nearby. Head to the ruins of Uld Palace and enter the river through the stairs. Then take the first right, where a door will now be open. This will take you to Nokstella, the Eternal City.

Nokstella, eternal city

When you’ve reached the Nokstella Grace Site, don’t take the stairs, but instead follow the path along the ground. When you reach a building to the south, it has an elevator to take down.

Take the elevator and find the Nokstella de Grace waterfall basin site. If you rest here, you can talk to Ranni a bit more. Proceed to the eggs and follow the path to the red room. You’ll be swarmed by a Baleful Shadow here who bears a striking resemblance to Blaidd (although it’s not him).

Fight the shadow and Ranni will thank you by saying goodbye and giving you the Abandoned palace key. (This can be used to open Rennalla’s Locked Chest in the Great Library, where you’ll receive a Dark Moon Ring). Head southeast into the building and take the elevator down to the rot lake.

Make your way through the rot lake to the Great Cloister. You can run to different platforms around the lake of rot, pressing buttons on the ground to raise structures and make your crossing easier.

When you reach the Great Cloister, head down this path, descending from the ledge onto the ledges below. Do this until you reach the bottom safely. Take the path up and to the left, until you reach a coffin.

Press Rest at Coffin and a cutscene will begin, knocking you over the edge of the waterfall.

At the bottom you will see a veiled door and will have to fight Astel, Naturalborn of the Void.

After defeating this boss, you’ll find a sealed door at the far end of the boss arena – which can only be opened by whoever has the Dark Moon Ring from the locked chest in Raya Lucaria’s Great Library.

Opening this seal will reveal an elevator taking you out of the well of the Ainsel River and up to the Altar of Moonlight – the large mountain peak above Liurnia on its western side. This area is incredibly high level and features several dragons – as well as the returning Glintstone Dragon Adula who is much tougher than when fought at Three Sisters.

Fight or bypass the dragon and enter the large cathedral, and you’ll find a hole in the ground you can fall through. Here, you’ll find that Ranni has done his deed, taking back his fate and eliminating his opponent. Interact with Ranni and you’ll place the Dark Moon ring on his finger, swearing your allegiance as a consort.

At this point, Ranni will ask you to continue your journey to become an Elden Lord, and when the time comes, you will both rule. After he disappears, return to the hole to find his final parting gift – the Darkmoon Greatsword Weapon.
