Welcome to the official IGN Wiki Guide and Walkthrough for Madden NFL 22. In this section, we’ll give you our choices for the game’s offensive and defensive playbooks. It’s important to note that some playbooks are built around specific types of teams. For example, you don’t want to be grossly fouled if your passer is way below par. Find one that works for your alignment to make your team as efficient as possible.
Best offensive playbooks
If you’re looking to air things up, we really love the Chiefs playbook because it has a ton of deep passes to take advantage of Patrick Mahomes’ cannon and Tyreek Hill speed. It’s our choice when we want to bombard passes on the pitch.
For teams that do a lot of racing, we have a few options. If you have a mobile QB like Lamar Jackson, the Ravens playbook is a good choice because it has so many designed QB tracks. If you’re throwing a more standard running attack, the Browns playbook is our playbook of choice.
Finally, for a more balanced approach, we like the Patriots and Raiders playbooks. With the Pats building around Cam Newtown, they have some nice running options to shake things up, while also providing excellent mid-distance passing. Meanwhile, the Raiders have almost any build you could want, which makes them very versatile.
Best defensive playbooks
Depending on which defensive front you want to lead, you have several good playbook options. For players looking to run a 3-4 base front, we love both the Bucs and the Steelers. The Bucs use fast linebackers who can quickly cover the field, while the Steelers playbook comes with all kinds of different sets to counter the offense.
On the 4-3 side, you’ll probably want to go with the Vikings. They do a great job of using this four man forehead. It probably won’t be the playbook you use online, but it’s a good option for Franchise Mode.
For us, the go-to defensive playbook will be the Alternate 46 playbook. It allows you to work with several different nickel sets, while still allowing you to exert a lot of pressure. Like many, we really like the Big Nickel package. It has been the competitive standard for a while and nothing seems to have changed. If you don’t want to use an alternative book, the Pats Playbook gives you that versatility as well.
