How to pick locks and make hooks

You’re going to come across quite a few locked containers and doors in Dying Light 2. They can either block your way to the objective you need to achieve, or just conceal an incredibly rare item, weapon, or piece of clothing. This Dying Light 2 Pick Guide will teach you how to make hooks, pick locks and increase your lock picking skills to make your job easier.

Manufacture of hooks

First, you’ll need to make sure you have hooks. You are taught how to craft them in the in-game tutorial, but if you forgot you will need “Scraps” and “Cloth Rags”.

While you have them, open the “Crafting” menu by pressing the touchpad on PS4/PS5 and the menu button on Xbox Series X|S/XB1 and proceed to “Crafting”.

Here, select the ‘Lockpick’ crafting recipe and press X/A. This will force you to craft two, or you can press Triangle/Y to craft as many hooks as possible with the amount of ingredients you have.

Now that you have your picks, we can move on to picking the locks.

Picking locks in Dying Light 2

The lock picking mini-game in Dying Light 2 is very similar to that of the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series. Your two analog sticks will be used to turn the lock and adjust the position of the pin itself.

Specifically, you will use the right analog stick to rotate the lock and the left analog stick to adjust the position of the pin in the lock.

The more resistance you feel when moving the right analog stick, the further the pin is from the correct position. The goal here is to adjust the analog sticks until you find the position where the lock is able to rotate 90 degrees and open.

So the best way to lock in Dying Light 2 is to move the left analog stick around different parts of the lock, then give the right analog stick a slight nudge to see if it spins at all. If so, keep turning. If it stops spinning, let go of the right analog stick and try somewhere else on the lock.

It’s really a trial and error process, but it’s not that hard to figure out once you’ve managed to pick out a few locks.

Keep in mind, however, that there are three different difficulty levels when it comes to lock picking – easy, medium, and hard. You can improve your lock picking skills by simply picking more locks. Practice makes perfect, after all.
