Welcome to the official IGN Wiki Guide and Walkthrough for Biomutant on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In this section, we’ll walk you through the process of changing tribes.
After completing the long Biomutant tutorial, you will need to decide whether you want to join the Myriad or the Lotus Tribes. The Myriad represents the light side of your aura, while the Lotus takes on the dark side.
You might think this choice is permanent, but you can actually switch tribes at any time. The steps can be a bit convoluted; however, they are relatively straightforward once you know what to do. If you want to ditch your old tribe and sign up with someone new, here’s how.
Steps to change your tribe
Once you’ve decided to switch tribes, the first thing you need to do is make sure that you are currently in a neutral tribe to the one you want to join. For example, if you decide to join the Myriad from the start, you can’t just run to the Lotus and change things.
These two tribes start off as rivals, which means the Lotus will attack you on sight. So you must first join a neutral tribe for both tribes. Outside the gates, it is someone like the Netra or the Pichu. As rival tribes change throughout the game, you can find out who is mad at whom in the Tribe tab of the Quest / Map menu.
Now that you’ve switched to a neutral tribe, simply head to the stronghold of the tribe you want to join and ask to speak to their Sifu. It will give you the possibility to change sides.
Advantages and disadvantages of changing tribe
You might wonder why anyone would want to change tribe. The most obvious reason is that the tribe they have decided to join does not match their current aura. While you’re playing, you might find yourself drifting off to the dark side, so sticking with someone like Myriad makes less sense. You don’t need to have the same aura as the tribe you’re in, but it definitely makes more sense.
On top of that, each tribe has their own weapon and outfit. The weapons that you will easily gain by conquering each tribe, even if you do not side with them; however, outfits are a bit more difficult to acquire. So, if you really like the look of Pichu’s infantrymen, you may consider changing up so you can get this outfit back without much extra effort.
The only negative we noticed when switching is that it seems like you can only do it once. So, be sure to think carefully about the tribe you are joining. This may be your only chance for a change.
