Take the Waverider for a spin in Genshin Impact’s surf driller an event, as part of the 2.8 Summer Fantasia celebration. The first Surfpiercer challenge unlocks on July 15, with a new challenge set to release over the next two days for a total of three challenges. Below are tips for completing each challenge and an overview of what you get for your efforts.

How to start Surfpiercer

Surfpiercer is the first event of Summer Fantasia. To start it, you must complete the Summertime Odyssey I quest and unlock thisyou have to:

• Be Adventure Rank 32 or higher
• Complete the Archon quest “Chapter II: Prologue – Winds of Autumn, Scarlet Leaves”
• Complete Mona’s story quest (reduced to AR 32 for 2.8 duration)

Surfpiercer Rewards and Challenges

The initial Surfpiercer challenge is basically just an introduction to the mechanics of the event. You need to gather Piercer’s Drive (the green orbs) whenever you can, then use the attack button to consume Drive and fast forward. You can also use the elemental skill button to draw nearby Drive orbs that you would otherwise have to detour to grab.

It should be noted that you don’t have to collect all the Piercer’s Drive orbs. Some of them in later challenges are intentionally placed in hard-to-reach areas, but the gains from getting them usually don’t outweigh the time you lose in the process.

For the first mission, just continue forward, using your dash whenever you can.

Complete the challenge in 140 seconds or less

• 30 Primogems
• 20,000 Moras
• 2 Hero’s Spirit

Use Surfpiercer’s Surge 1 time

Use Coalesce 3 times

• 20,000 Moras
• 3 Mystical Enhancement Ore

Surfpiercer 2 Rewards and Challenges

Surfpiercer 2 is a little more complicated, but also serves mainly as practice for what lies ahead. You can smash some objects, especially rickety-looking wooden fences, using Surfpiercer’s Surge, which comes in handy for the third challenge and probably those for the next few days as well.

The tutorial is also slightly misleading. It indicates that you can use Surge to cross certain obstacles and create shortcuts. That doesn’t mean you can stray off the main road and skip checkpoints though.

For now, keep sticking to the center of the road, using coalescence to grab any Drive orbs that are out of reach. Coalesce has an impressive array of effects, so don’t think you need to go out of your way to get it to work properly. Activate Surge whenever you can to smash small fences in your path and quickly cover a large area.

Destroy 2 obstacles

Surfpiercer 3 Rewards and Challenges

Surfpiercer 3 is where classes start to get a little trickier. Most Drive orbs are out of your reach, requiring careful timing for Coalesence, and unlike before, it’s best to save your Surge uses until you actually need them. Fences and other breakable obstacles appear unexpectedly in several places on the course, and you save a lot of time by crossing them instead of around them.

Complete the challenge in 140 seconds

Use Surfpiercer’s Surge 4 times

• 20,000 Moras
• 4 Mystical Enhancement Ore
