FIDE Grand Prix Series 2022

About the Grand Prix Series

There are 24 players. Each player will play in two of the three tournaments. Each tournament will have 16 players and will have a two-stage format.

In the first stage, players are divided into four pools of four, and players from each pool play a double mini-round robin. The four group winners advance to the second stage.

In the second stage, the four pool winners play a knockout tournament, consisting of semi-finals and a final. The semi-finals and the final will consist of 2 regular matches with a time limit, plus tie-breaks if necessary.

Players are awarded Grand Prix points based on their finishing position in each tournament. The two players with the most Grand Prix points from the two tournaments they participate in qualify for the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Click here to see the rules and regulations.
