Embracer Group will swallow Tripwire, Tuxedo Labs, Lord of the Rings

Embracer Group are pretty terrifying. The amount of power they have in the gaming industry is just insane and now they are gobbling up more studios and even all the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Advertised on several Press Releases today, they announced their intention to acquire:

  • Limited Run Games – which makes physical releases for collectors. This deal will also include something called “Carbon Engine”, which is a technology they’ve developed “that allows legacy content and retro games to be effortlessly delivered in highly accurate emulation-based ports for platforms. modern”.
  • Singtrix – an award-winning creator of industry-leading vocal processing effects technology for karaoke, gaming and entertainment.
  • Middle-earth Enterprises – so they will own all worldwide rights to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit and other Middle-earth related works in movies, video games, board games, merchandising, theme parks and stage productions. They will therefore not own the literary works themselves, but only the intellectual property rights allowing them to do practically anything with them.
  • Tuxedo Labs – they created the pretty awesome game Teardown.
  • Tripwire Interactive – developed the Killing Floor and Rising Storm games.

How long before Embracer Group buys the rest of the internet? I expect a knock on the door soon, just kidding of course.
