Disney Responds to Peter Dinklage’s Critics of ‘Dwarf’ Snow White Remake

Pierre Dinklage is currently one of the most familiar faces in the film industry and has played several iconic characters over the years. He succeeded in breaking stereotypes, pushing boundaries and cementing his role as an accomplished showman. to play Tyrion Lannister in game of thronesto perform in his wife’s musical Cyrano, Peter Dinklage has come a long way. However, he has always been critical of the way people with dwarfism are portrayed on screen, and his recent statement even made disney to move back.

Dinklage recently appeared on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, where they talked about the upcoming remake of the Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Although Dinklage is not involved in the project, he noted, “Literally, no offense, but I was a little surprised when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White – but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Take a step back and look at what you are doing there. That does not make any sense. You’re progressive in a way, but you’re still doing this fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living together in a cave? What the hell are you doing, man? Did I do nothing to advance the cause from my platform? I guess I’m not strong enough.

A Disney spokesperson released a statement via The Hollywood Reporter, trying to make amends to Dinklage’s remarks. They said, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes of the original animated film, we’re taking a different approach with these seven characters and consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film enters production after a long period of development.

The film is still in production and the characters are still being redesigned for the final screening. Do you think the Snow White remake would feel the same without the Seven Dwarfs? Tell us in the comments below!
